And what a year it was. The like of which I doubt I will ever see again in my lifetime. So it seemed fitting to recommend I capture highlights through my occasional <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link \" href=\"https:\/\/www.zaun.co.uk\/blogs\/\"  title=\"blog\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\">blog<\/a> and relive the year once more in a look-back at 2012. A year dominated by the Olympics &#8211; from, for us, ensuring we beat the clock with our installations for the Games, right through to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zaun.co.uk\/high-speed-travel\/\" title=\"Zaun discusses high-speed travel on BBC Radio 5 Live\">BBC<\/a> Sports Personality of the Year and even this week&#8217;s New Year&#8217;s Honours list.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #808080;\">Team GB and Paralympic GB excelled at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zaun.co.uk\/blog\/londons-olympic-games\/\" title=\"Lessons learned at London\u2019s Olympic Games\">London Games<\/a>. A whopping tally of 185 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zaun.co.uk\/casestudies\/commonwealth-games-fencing\/\" title=\"Glasgow 2014&#8217;s Gold Medal Security\">medals across the two games<\/a>, 63 of them gold, saw us beaten only by China, the US and Russia.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #808080;\">Usain Bolt guaranteed his place in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zaun.co.uk\/casestudies\/world-leaders-secured-in-the-hague\/\" title=\"World leaders secured in The Hague\">world<\/a> history. But who can forget the epic performances of Grainger, Simmonds, Hoy, Brownlee, Adams, Weir, Trott, Pendleton, Peacock, Farah, Ennis, Ainslie, Cockroft, Storey, and so many more?<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #808080;\">OK, the footballers didn&#8217;t really shine at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zaun.co.uk\/blog\/hockey-pitch-fence\/\" title=\"Euro hockey giants benefit from Olympic fencing\">Euro 2012 or the Olympics<\/a>, but there was plenty more to cheer.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #808080;\">And the GamesMakers made us all proud to be British and host what must surely be the greatest <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zaun.co.uk\/blog\/importance-of-security\/\" title=\"The importance of security on the Olympic field\">Olympics<\/a> ever.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #808080;\">Away from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zaun.co.uk\/major-event-fencing\/\">Olympics<\/a>, other golden Olympians shone like never before. Andy Murray broke his Grand Slam duck at the US Open&nbsp;in September in an epic five-setter at Flushing Meadows against Novak Djokovic after a run of four lost finals to become the first male Brit&nbsp;for 76 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zaun.co.uk\/ctx-exhibition\/\" title=\"Zaun wins accolades with CTX 2015 Product of the Year\">years to win<\/a> a Grand Slam singles title.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #808080;\">And Wiggo, or Sir Bradley as he will now be known, became the first-ever British winner of the Tour de France in its 110-year history. How great was that to do it fairly, square and clean in a year when the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zaun.co.uk\/blog\/security-modern-world-expo-2015\/\" title=\"Security in the modern world at Expo 2015\">world<\/a> learned of the dirty tricks less than a decade earlier as Lance Armstrong&#8217;s dodgy dominance was finally exposed? Alongside sport, the other shining attraction of the year was the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zaun.co.uk\/blog\/royal-fencing\/\" title=\"Prince Charles\u2019 Irish trip reignites Royal recollections\">Royal<\/a> Family.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #808080;\">Incredibly the Queen celebrated her 60th year on the throne. The rain, an ever-present feature of the year as I <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link \" href=\"https:\/\/www.zaun.co.uk\/about-us\/fencing-survey\/\"  title=\"survey\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\">survey<\/a> the flooded fields everywhere I go, failed to dampen spirits as the country turned out in a tapestry of red, white and blue to honour the occasion.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #808080;\">The young Royals shone too. Prince William and Kate&#8217;s first official overseas tour to Asia-Pacific was a triumph and the announcement that Kate was pregnant and expecting a child that will be the third in line to the throne, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zaun.co.uk\/blog\/laad-sends-boys-brazil\/\" title=\"LAAD sends boys to Brazil\">boy<\/a> or girl, was a crowning moment of the year.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #808080;\">I was lucky enough to attend the first tea party at Buckingham Palace hosted by Kate early in the year.&nbsp;<a data-wpil=\"url\" data-wpil=\"url\" data-wpil=\"url\" data-wpil=\"url\" data-wpil=\"url\" data-wpil=\"url\" data-wpil=\"url\" data-wpil=\"url\" data-wpil=\"url\" data-wpil=\"url\" href=\"https:\/\/www.zaun.co.uk\/\">Zaun&nbsp;<\/a>also provided fencing for the David Beckham Pitch at the new FA Centre at St George&#8217;s Park in Burton, opened by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #808080;\">I&#8217;ve been to Dubai, Paris, London, Saudi Arabia and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zaun.co.uk\/blog\/brazil-world-cup-fencing\/\" title=\"My blessings go with Roy\u2019s boys to Brazil\">Brazil<\/a> in search of new contracts that will allow us to emulate the work we did for London 2012.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #808080;\">I wonder what 2013 holds in store . . .<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>So 2012 is over.
