Within seconds, one of the animals was seen with its jaws around the little boy&#8217;s neck. He sustained serious lacerations and puncture wounds before being rescued by zoo workers, who used <a data-wpil=\"url\" href=\"https:\/\/www.zaun.co.uk\/emergency-services\/fire-station-security\/\" title=\"Fire Stations\">fire<\/a> extinguishers to keep the animals at bay. The boy was transported to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zaun.co.uk\/blog\/hospital-security\/\" title=\"HiSec 358 fencing: What makes it the perfect choice for hospital security?\">hospital<\/a> within five minutes, where he luckily made a full recovery. The accident, however, left visitors understandably nervous, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zaun.co.uk\/fencing-for-big-cats\/\" title=\"Big cats aplenty as hunt for zoo orders becomes a stampede\">zoo<\/a> was forced to close for several days afterwards.<\/p>\n<h2>Improvements in Fencing for Zoos<\/h2>\n<p>A comprehensive investigation was carried out following the shocking incident, and now major measures are coming into force to ensure that an accident of this sort does not happen again. Central to these plans is a series of new two-part fences, which will be erected around the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zaun.co.uk\/fencing-at-longleat\/\" title=\"Longleat pride at big cat homes\">big cats<\/a> and great apes areas, making the exhibits much more secure. The two sets of fencing are separated by an empty area, meaning if anyone or anything were to fall over the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zaun.co.uk\/products\/decorative-railings\/\" title=\"Holloway Railings\">railings<\/a>, they would still be cut off from the wild animals in the pens. In addition, the new fencing will be much taller and wider than the previous set of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zaun.co.uk\/zaun-launches-barcode-railings\/\" title=\"Zaun launches barcode railings\">railings<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The team in Arkansas have decided to install a range of perimeter <a data-wpil=\"url\" href=\"https:\/\/www.zaun.co.uk\/blog\/benefits-of-weld-mesh-fencing\/\" title=\"Welded mesh fencing: What are the key benefits?\">mesh fencing<\/a> already used in zoos all over the world; this mesh fencing is multi-purpose in its design, being strong, able to withstand the considerable weight and easy to see through.
