If you own a larger business, you are likely to have multiple sites or premises. Furthermore, there may be times when some of these premises are closed or out of use. You might assume that closed-up premises are safe from criminals and intruders because they aren\u2019t used to store valuables. However, this isn\u2019t the case. Vandals, squatters and other opportunists may try to access sites while they aren\u2019t in use. Therefore, it\u2019s essential to make sure that these sites and premises are properly<\/a> secured. At the same time, you should try to avoid spending too much money securing your out-of-use sites<\/a>. In today\u2019s blog<\/a>, we\u2019ll look at some simple methods you can use to keep your closed-up sites safe without breaking the bank.<\/p>\n

1. Utilise fences with barbed wire or spiked fence-toppings<\/h2>\n

Regardless of the type of business you run, all your sites and premises should be equipped with security fencing<\/a>. However, you may have chosen not to install fence-toppings<\/a> because you have a consumer-facing business. Closed-up sites don\u2019t need to seem inviting to customers. As a result, you can install sharp, imposing fence-toppings<\/a> at these sites. They will act as a cost-effective deterrent while the site is out of use but can be easily removed when you reopen it.<\/p>\n

2. Hire a single security guard<\/h2>\n

You might employ full security teams to help keep<\/a> your active sites and premises safe. However, employing multiple people to secure a closed-up site would obviously be excessive. Nonetheless, it is worth hiring a single security guard or watchman to patrol the premises. Would-be intruders are far less likely to try and gain access to a site if you position a member of your security personnel there.<\/p>\n

3. Use CCTV to monitor main entrance-points<\/h2>\n

Monitoring an entire closed-up site with CCTV cameras<\/a> may not be cost-effective. However, that doesn\u2019t mean you shouldn\u2019t use any CCTV equipment<\/a>. Instead, we recommend positioning a handful of cameras so that they can view entrances and exits. This isn\u2019t as costly as providing CCTV coverage<\/a> for the entire site, but it should stop most intruders. Remember, there are between 4 million and 6 million CCTV cameras in the UK: if your premises isn\u2019t protected by at least one camera, it\u2019s likely to stand out to prospective criminals.<\/p>\n
